Chinese herbs use all-natural ingredients in special formulations individualized for each patient, widely available as prescription or over-the-counter pills in China. Modern herbs are grinded into a powder before being placed into a capsule or pressed into a tablet for easy swallowing.  Many of these millenium-old recipes have formed the basis for Western medicine after rigorous research. For example, TCM expert Tu Youyou was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2015 for her discovery of the herb artemisinin, now compounded into a drug to treat malaria. See her interview here.
